I had never heard of "net.art", let alone “cyberfeminism". I found the history of this new medium incredibly exciting as I had never imagined the start of this field. It made me intrigued about future new art forms, especially with Art AI technology evolving now. "Behind the playful parody of über-corporate news filter CNN was a growing concern that the Internet would soon be colonized by mainstream media and the corporate juggernaut." This quote struck out to me because it feels important to the start of the web and the unknown intentions that surrounded it. I personally would have been weary when I first saw net.art because it is so unique and out there. From my understanding, this fear became real as Facebook, Twitter, etc took over the Web. It makes sense that web pages needed to be outlandish in order to receive foot traffic. Small artists on this new platform, figuring out a new medium, must have been working really hard and thinking out-of-the-box. For example, the project Heritage Gold was cool to see because it was the first time Photoshop was publicly
used for a political statement. It must have been a powerful activism tool though for politic
al statements. This article taught me the term "hacktivist" which I really admired. I hope to someday acquire "An existential aesthetic".
